Bikowski Awarded Wenner-Gren Dissertation Fellowship

Body

Our grant development team supported Kyle Bikowski, PhD Candidate in the Department of Anthropology, in securing the Wenner-Gren Dissertation Fieldwork Grant for $24,998. Bikowski's research focuses on "gayming" (a portmanteau of gay and video gaming) communities in Mexico, exploring their complexity and joyfulness within intersecting layers of marginality. Through observations of online interactions, conventions, and arcade gatherings, Bikowski will analyze how multiple identities are performed, transcending marginality to establish global connections.

Our grant development support staff provide personalized, one-on-one support to faculty, staff, and students across campus. They facilitate grant writing groups, identify funding sources, and prepare grant budgets and justifications.

Bikowski noted that our team has been "extremely helpful in finding a variety of grants and encouraging me not to give up if they were not accepted the first time.”

In addition to grant support, we offer a range of services for researchers on campus. Visit our list of services, or contact us at ppc@uiowa.edu for more information.
