Public Policy Center Establishes the Forkenbrock Series on Public Policy
The
Forkenbrock
Series will provide a forum for dialogue about policy
areas from an applied, academic, and interdisciplinary perspective. The
series was established in honor of David Forkenbrock, Founding Director
of the Public Policy Center and a nationally
recognized transportation researcher. To launch the series, a symposium
focused on Transportation Finance and Economics: Policy Options for the
Future will take place September 11-12, 2008, in Iowa City, IA.

Public Policy Center 2007-2008 Activity Report
The Public Policy Center today released its annual activity report for the 2007-2008 year. This year the Center changed its mission to focus more on the sustainability of communities. Other highlights of the report: the PPC this year had 23 grants totalling over $18 million in funding and produced 33 scholarly publications.

Physical Activity, Weight and Eating Habits of Iowa Children
A
new report from the PPC Health Research Program found that only 13% of
Iowa's children met the healthy eating guidelines studied. Most
children, however, had parents who reported them to be physically
active, although activity levels varied by age and gender.

Outcomes of Care for Iowa Medicaid Managed Care Enrollees
The PPC Health Policy Research group has released a report on the outcomes for care for adults and children in Iowa's Medicaid program. Outcomes measures studied included well-child visits, dental care, access to preventive/ambulatory services, and prenatal and postpartum care.

Damiano, Hanley and Anthony named to Governor’s Rebuild Iowa Advisory Commission
Peter Damiano, Director of the UI Public Policy Center (PPC), Paul Hanley, Director of the PPC Transportation Research Program and Jerry Anthony, Director of the PPC Subprime Housing Crisis Symposium have been named to the Governor’s Rebuild Iowa Advisory Commission. Damiano will be part of the Public Health and Health Care Task Force, Hanley the Infrastructure and Transportation Task Force, and Anthony the Housing Task Force.The Rebuild Iowa Commission Task Forces will help develop and set out a plan of action for Iowa’s rebuilding efforts following the floods.
